I’m noticing that gas prices here in CA are skyrocketing. But diesel isn’t. So my question is, what is the best diesel car out on the market today? No limits on price. And please list the mileage of the car you’re posting.

I think you posted it.

Honda V6s are known to run on NOS exclusively. Are you saying this is a good alternative?

For the NA market I’d have to say that the best diesels are VW’s TDI-equipped cars and Mercedes BlueTec-equipped cars.
I get between 52 and 55 mpg in my 2013 Jetta TDI with just over 20k kms on it.

Me so sorry.
But Earth Dreams 4-cylinders sound more like diesels.

Trident, far and away. The only cool Diesel car on the market if you ask me, trucks non-withstanding. But it’s a case of “if you have to ask you can’t afford it”.
190MPH top speed and a range of........2,000 miles!!!!!!

BMW 328d! It’s a brilliant car with performance features as well such as a turbo and an intercooler.

I have a 1983 300D Turbo Merc, 118k on it, last forever and more class than you can buy today. I can get MPGs in the 30’s on the highway with correct tire pressure.

Alpina D4 BiTurbo. Based on the F32 BMW 4-series.
Inline 6, 350hp, 700NM.
Combined consumption: 5,3L/100Km.
Pretty amazing numbers.

Other than Volkswagen, who else makes diesel cars? Only other diesels I can think of are Audi SUVs. I’d think anything else would be pretty rare, at least in my neck of the woods.

BMW has the 535d, 328d, and X5 xdrive35d.
Mercedes has the GLK 250 Bluetec, E350 Bluetec, and probably some more I’m forgetting.
And Audi has the A3 TDI, A6 and A7 TDI, Q5 TDI, and Q7 TDI.

I was actually thinking about this on the way home today - it’s a shame that GM doesn’t really have much in the way of wagons. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the CTS wagon, which definitely isn’t built for fuel efficiency.

Bmw had a 335d that was here with the e90 gen. With a tune, that thing could fucking HAUL ass like no bodys business.

Depends on what you are looking for. The Most Jalopnik Diesel for North America, is a brown convertible manual VW TDI beetle. If you just want a nice sedan, go for the Passat SEL TDI, top of the line, or a Mercedes E class. The BMW is overpriced, and a bit too cramped. The AUDI is a bit overpriced, but worth it, if you need AWD.

Well it sure beats the 17-18mpg I was getting before the Jetta!
